Who runs Devon Carers?

In a word, Carers.

The contract/funding for Devon Carers is held by Westbank (a charity and a company limited by guarantee), and delivery is undertaken by Westbank and a number of other charities. Two of these other charities - Action East Devon and Exeter CVS - are linked to Westbank through a joint venture agreement that covers the work of Devon Carers.

Day to day there are a number of staff who are employed to deliver the information, support and short breaks services. The staff are accountable to a board/committee for all of the work of Devon Carers; the board receive and approve regular monitoring reports before these are submitted to funders, and have the ultimate responsibility for all major/strategic decisions about how Devon Carers operates.

The board comprises an equal number of carers and professionals (representing Westbank and the other joint venture partners). Opportunities to join the board are regularly advertised to carers through the newsletter and website. Members of the board are selected to ensure a good mix of carers from different parts of the county and with a range of experiences. Current (carer) members are:

  • Sonia Barton (chair, and a trustee of Westbank)
  • Phil Bourne
  • Sarah Godbeer
  • Mona Hassan
  • Cindy Stone
