However, they are also very helpful to read through, even if you don’t work through the examples. Chapter 7 is on ‘Recovery and Hope’ and is a good description of how this applies both to people with mental health problems and to their families, friends and supporters.

The Exeter and East Devon branch tell me that they do not do anything specific for carers. All referrals ( to access 1-1 support for the person with mental health issues) must be through Devon Partnership Trust. The National Website has lots of useful information for families and friends of people with mental health issues including brief descriptions of diagnosis and what you can do to be supporting and looking after yourself.

Blogs & Forums

Blogs are diaries and reflections from individuals who live with a condition or who are a care for a person with a condition. Google ‘Blogs for ….( what ever the condition you need to know about)’ For mental health, there are far more blogs for people living with the condition that for their carers.  Forums are more like conversations with other people in similar situations to yourself. Here are some forums to get you started.
