Eastern Devon Area Lead Practitioner for Young Carers: Cathy Kingham
I am the Lead Practitioner for Mid Devon Young Carers and I am based in Tiverton.  I have been working in this post since 2009 and feel privileged to work with these amazing young people and their families.  Previously I worked with domestic abuse and the Alzheimer’s Society, and I have also been a carer myself, and feel I have a good grasp of the situations in which people may find themselves.  My job involves, amongst many other things, carrying out assessments with young carers, working 1:1 with those in need, raising awareness, liaising with & meeting other agencies including youth workers, schools, primary care & social care and the public regarding the issues that affect young carers, attending & supporting young carers through the Devon Assessment Framework (DAF) and Child Protection/Child in Need processes, providing guidance and supporting the Young Carer Support Worker with professional/specialist input to assist with his work, monitoring and helping him manage his workload efficiently.  My aim is always to be honest with families, assess the whole family situation and support their young carers in whichever form is most appropriate for them in various settings.
